Keep And Sync: Unread Articles Only

Update: This sync option is working now and not considered experimental anymore.

With NewsRob 3.4.0 a new sync option was introduced:

Keep And Sync: Unread Articles Only (Experimental)

Please don't use that feature anymore. For some users it lead to articles marked as read, that weren't read. I don't know yet, what the problem is, but I'll put an update onto this post when I know more.

This conversation contains more details and I will keep it updated.

  3. Jaime, yes, absolutely. And I saw that you meanwhile also found the uservoice entries.

CPR-AL, could you please come to the mailing list and describe this issue in more detail? I am sure this can be solved quickly then.

It would be awesome if you could install the Log Collector app from the Android Market, reproduce the NewsRob bug and then launch Log Collector and send the log to me? mariano.kamp@gmail.com

  5. Jaime, did you read the comment there? I didn't just decline it. I posted a link to another suggestion that already has collected 25 votes and as far as I could tell does the same thing as yours. That is the reason I wrote that you should transfer your votes.

  8. [CPR]-AL.exe:
Which version of NR are you using? 3.2.6? Why such an old version?

I pushed 3.5.3 24h ago that should fix that problem. NewsRob didn't handle properly when a session expired.

If for some reason you cannot upgrade quickly, you can also chose "Logout & Clear Cache" from the menu, then "Refresh".

  9. Cool program, it would be nice if you could cache the mobil version of web pages instead of the full html, I'm not sure if you could use a browser identifier to prevent this? Also when duplicate pages are loaded with similar content from a website does it use some form of caching? Also the ability to add comments, would be pretty rad too. Awesome work dude, the project is by far one of the best apps I've seen on the android platform! This is coming form a person who doesn't use many apps.

  10. Hey Morley,

    thanks for your feedback.

The best place to discuss features is the group: http://bit.ly/nr_list. The best place to submit the result of discussions to turn into features is here: http://bit.ly/nr_suggest.

    1) Did you discover that there is a context menu on a feed or article called "Manage Feed". From there you can select download type "feed content + mobile web page". Does this do what you want? For what site doesn't it do what you want?

    2) Each page is stored and managed separately. So when one image is referred to in many pages, it will still be downloaded many times. That saves a lot of overhead, because I otherwise need to track in NewsRob databases not only the pages, but each and every individual asset.

    3) Share with comments is the #2 feature suggestion at the moment (http://bit.ly/nr_suggest) and I am working on that.

  11. Hey is there a way to get this app to auto download the actual feed articles when you connect? I have set it to save the images for offline mode as I don't have a data connection other than wifi.

I would really like to be able to read a few feeds offline on the go just by tapping sync, or even better, set a timer for my G1 to switch on wifi and autosync in the morning for me :D

That's asking for far too much though as I don't think an app like this exists.

Overall excellent program, many great settings such as what you want the feed to download!

  12. Hey Chris,

I want to keep these things out of NewsRob to stay focused on what is specific to NewsRob.
To provide a solution for these kind of issues NewsRob syncs can be triggered by Locale. With Locale you can specify that NewsRob should start a sync every weekday at 5am or every time you get to a location like your office, or every time you plug your phone in.

Currently there is no event for "wifi connected" I think. But you may want to check this out for yourself and then check the feature suggestions: locale.uservoice.com
